A shortage of public defenders in the Albuquerque metro area has caused delays in a high-profile fatal shooting case.

Hearing For Fatal Shooting Case That Killed 11-Year-Old Boy Delayed Due To Lack Of Public Defenders| KOAT

The fatal shooting suspects were arrested after killing an 11-year-old boy and injured his cousin due to a mistaken identity.

The fatal shooting suspects, Daniel Gomez, and Nathan Garley were scheduled for hearings to determine if they would stay in jail until their trial.

However, the hearing of one of the fatal shooting suspects was postponed because he did not have a defense attorney assigned to his case, and the same thing happened to the other fatal shooting suspect the following day.

The Public Defender’s Office, which is facing a shortage of attorneys, had difficulty finding lawyers for the defendants but eventually managed to do so.

Garley is scheduled for another hearing to determine if they should remain in detention before the trial on Friday morning. On the other hand, Gomez’s hearing has been postponed and rescheduled for October 3rd.

According to NBC News, three men were arrested in connection t the said fatal shooting resulting in the death of an 11-year-old boy. Daniel Gomez, 26, was the third individual taken into custody, following the arrests of Jose Romero, 22, and Nathen Garley, 21.

The fatal shooting, which occurred on September 6, at the time Romero and Garley mistakenly opened fire on a truck carrying Froylan Villegas and his family as it closely resembled the vehicle of their intended targets, NBC News added.
