HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – In a startling turn of events, Penny Marie Cason, aged 51, finds herself in the legal spotlight, facing charges of grand theft for allegedly embezzling more than $20,000 in lottery tickets from her place of work.
The case came to light when a High Springs Police Department officer was called to High Springs Pure, located at 23179 W. U.S. Hwy 27. The store’s general manager had been collaborating with the Florida Lottery to assess the full extent of the loss but had already identified that the theft exceeded $20,000. According to the manager, the incidents spanned over two months, during which time Cason reportedly confessed to the thefts.
Under the advisement of her rights, Cason acknowledged taking books of lottery tickets, although she seemed unsure about the exact quantity stolen. Despite the gravity of the charges, Cason, who has no prior criminal record, was released on her own recognizance by Judge Meshon Rawls.
