GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jaimickel Donnel Florence, 29, was arrested early Tuesday after Gainesville police said he was recorded masturbating while looking into a woman’s apartment window near the University of Florida campus. Florence was also wanted on a probation violation after a probation officer learned in early August that he had left his registered address and stopped responding to calls.
Police were called to the 200 block of NW 15th Street after the woman reported that a security camera captured a man staring through her window and masturbating at about 9:45 p.m. Oct. 2. According to the arrest report, the footage showed the suspect wearing distinctive shoes.
Officers circulated the description among patrol units. Five days later, an officer spotted Florence in the 600 block of West University Avenue wearing shoes matching those seen in the video and took him into custody. The report states that Florence appeared to be the person captured on camera.
A court document describes Florence as homeless. He was released from state prison June 1 after serving a 2½-year sentence in Alachua County for felony battery. On July 22, he received a citation in Alachua for driving with a suspended license, but he did not appear for a scheduled hearing Aug. 26.
Records also show that Florence missed three batterer intervention sessions in July and failed to complete an initial mental health assessment required within 60 days of his release.

After learning that Florence had not participated in the required treatment, his probation officer contacted the program and visited Florence’s last known residence. The property owner reportedly said Florence had moved because he was “aggravated.” She also told the officer that Florence had texted her July 30, saying he had relocated to Roanoke, Virginia, for a job. The message came from Florence’s last known phone number. The probation officer said repeated calls went unanswered and that Florence’s former employer confirmed he no longer worked there.
A warrant was issued Aug. 12 for an alleged probation violation, and the Florida Department of Corrections subsequently listed Florence as a fugitive.
Florence faces charges of first-offense voyeurism, failing to appear at a criminal traffic hearing and violating probation. His record includes two felony convictions, both classified as violent, and two nonviolent misdemeanor convictions. He has served one state prison sentence and was released June 1 while on probation in that case. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $15,000 on the voyeurism charge and $2,500 on the traffic charge. Florence was ordered held without bail pending resolution of the probation violation.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
