GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a peculiar incident at the Haile Market Square Publix, a 23-year-old named Williamson Dercelian Isaac was arrested after reportedly refusing to vacate the premises. Deputies, recognizing him as the individual previously spotted with a large sword, conducted a search and allegedly discovered the weapon hidden in his pants.
The sequence of events unfolded around 5:30 p.m. on May 16, when an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the Publix located at 2755 SW 91st St. A store manager claimed that Isaac was using cart-cleaning wipes to scrub his feet in the store’s foyer. Upon being asked to leave, he allegedly refused to comply.
Deputies encountered Isaac walking near the store and verified with the manager that he had indeed been asked to leave and had refused. They also recognized him as the individual frequently seen in the vicinity wielding a large sword, which had prompted numerous calls to the Combined Communications Center.
Isaac reportedly declined to provide his identity and, when questioned about being armed, gave evasive responses suggesting he might be carrying a weapon. A pat-down revealed a long object near his hip, which turned out to be a sword.
Further investigation of Isaac’s belongings uncovered a SNAP card bearing his name. His identity was subsequently confirmed through a photograph in the driver’s license database.
After he was handcuffed, Isaac reportedly said, “I’m sorry for trespassing.”
Isaac has been charged with armed trespassing. He has no local criminal history, and he has been released from the Alachua County Jail.
