A Minnesota man has been charged with the deadly shooting of another individual, later allegedly stating that he could not recall his whereabouts on that day — even though numerous surveillance cameras recorded him.

Ibrahim Abukaar Abdi, 31, was accused by police of shooting 35-year-old Sadik Yusuf at an apartment complex in Rochester, Minnesota, on July 3.

In a Facebook post regarding the incident, the Rochester Police Department noted that officers arrived at the scene at about 11:30 a.m. on July 3. They discovered Yusuf on the ground with a gunshot wound to the neck, the complaint stated, and attempted life-saving efforts. Yusuf was declared deceased at the location, and Abdi had left.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by local Fox affiliate KMSP, two witnesses spoke to police and told them that they both saw Abdi that day. One witness who saw the shooting reportedly told police that Abdi and Yusuf had been arguing about “money and disrespect” before the allegedly fatal escalation. The witness reportedly saw Abdi take a bag of marijuana from Yusuf before he allegedly shot him.

The second witness told police that he was with Abdi and the first witness earlier in the day. Later, Abdi came to his home saying that he had an emergency. According to the complaint, the second witness stated Abdi was acting “weird” and “different” during their visit and provided police with Abdi”s cellphone number.

Police said they were able to track Abdi’s cellphone to the apartment complex where the shooting took place and where Abdi lived. Abdi was arrested without incident on Monday.

While being questioned by police, Abdi allegedly claimed he did not remember what he did on July 3 and said he was not with the two witnesses. He also alleged that he knew nothing about the shooting, except that he heard there was a shooting.

When Abdi was confronted with video evidence showing him with both witnesses at a HyVee store as well as footage of him at the apartment complex walking towards the scene of the shooting, he reportedly told police, “Yeah that’s crazy. I don’t remember.”

Abdi was charged with second-degree murder, second-degree murder with a dangerous weapon, second-degree murder while committing a felony, and possessing a firearm while a convicted felon. He is being held at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center without bond.
