A Vermont mother accused of injuring her 11-month-old son will not serve a lengthy prison sentence after reaching a plea agreement in the case.
Taylor Grenier, 31, pleaded guilty to aggravated domestic assault and was sentenced to 30 days behind bars, followed by five years of probation. The resolution comes two years after Grenier’s then-11-month-old baby suffered serious injuries at the Bradford Motel in Bradford, Vermont, where she was living at the time.
First responders were called to the motel on Aug. 8, 2024, and found the infant lethargic and bruised on the head. Grenier initially told authorities the child had fallen from a bed while the two were sleeping together, but hospital medical staff later said the baby’s injuries did not match that explanation.
The child’s condition worsened after he suffered a seizure and had to be placed on a ventilator.
Grenier had originally faced charges of aggravated domestic assault and child cruelty. As part of the plea deal, the child cruelty charge was dismissed. On Aug. 19, she received a prison sentence of two to eight years, but the term was suspended except for 30 days to be served at Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility. The court also ordered Grenier to undergo random drug testing and take part in mental health and substance abuse treatment.
