A Maine mother accused of leaving her 3-year-old daughter inside a sweltering SUV outside a convenience store until the child died told authorities she had been camping, officials said.

Kelly Brown, 41, pleaded guilty to manslaughter of a family or household member in connection with the death of her daughter, Fiona Brown, along with aggravated animal cruelty tied to the death of the family dog, the Maine Attorney General’s Office confirmed to Law&Crime.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Brown’s later indictment on a depraved indifference murder charge would be dismissed if the judge accepts the deal, the office told regional ABC affiliate WMTW.

Investigators said Brown was in Maine visiting relatives when the fatal incident unfolded. Her own mother contacted authorities to report Brown and Fiona missing after Brown allegedly began sharing “bizarre” posts on social media.

For weeks before the child’s death, Brown had reportedly claimed she was seeing spirits, according to local CBS affiliate WABI.

Brown is scheduled to return to court for sentencing in November.
