A Georgia woman finds herself in serious legal trouble after allegedly causing the tragic death of her infant son by putting alcohol in his bottle. The baby, just two months old, tragically passed away with a blood-alcohol concentration measured at .179, more than double the legal driving limit for adults.

Omayrilin Colon, aged 37, now faces severe charges, including murder and first-degree cruelty to children, as per jail records. Law enforcement in Atlanta was alerted to the emergency on October 14, when they received a distress call regarding an unresponsive infant at an apartment located on Perry Boulevard. Emergency medical personnel quickly transported the child to a nearby hospital, where he was sadly pronounced deceased.

Despite the absence of visible injuries, a thorough autopsy accompanied by toxicology tests was undertaken to ascertain the cause of death. It was revealed that the infant succumbed to alcohol poisoning, a shocking discovery confirmed by the high BAC level. This tragic outcome was not a mere accident, as investigators concluded that Colon had intentionally administered alcohol to the baby through his bottle. Authorities confirmed that the alcohol was directly administered in this manner, ruling out transmission through breast milk.

The motive behind Colon’s alleged actions remains unclear, and questions linger about the type of alcohol used. Following the conclusive toxicology results, police swiftly moved to secure an arrest warrant, leading to Colon’s detainment.

What police discovered next was shocking: The alcohol poisoning was no accident, investigators determined. Colon purposefully filled the boy’s bottle with alcohol, cops say. Investigators were also able to determine that the booze came from the bottle and did not pass through breast milk. It’s unclear what type of alcohol was used and why Colon would allegedly do such a thing to her own child.

Police obtained an arrest warrant after the toxicology reports came back.

Colon was arrested on Thursday and remains in the Fulton County Jail without bond. It’s unclear when she is next slated to appear in court.

Neighbors told WSB they were stunned.

“It’s not necessary to cause harm to anyone, let alone children,” the neighbor said. “It’s heartbreaking and maddening.”
