Newberry Woman Arrested After Allegedly Sending Death Threats to Ex-Husband

Staff report

NEWBERRY, Fla. – Teaira Denise Lewis, 32, was arrested and accused of aggravated cyberstalking after authorities say she sent threatening messages to her former husband, including warnings that he would be killed.

According to an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office report, the victim told a responding deputy that he received the following messages from Lewis on August 26:

The deputy reportedly reviewed the messages on the victim’s cellphone. They were sent from a number investigators identified as being associated with Lewis.

The victim also told authorities that another person had reportedly seen Lewis with the man referenced in the messages. That man was allegedly carrying a firearm, leading the victim to fear that Lewis and the individual were planning to conspire to kill him.

Lewis told Court Services that she works for a home healthcare agency. She has two prior nonviolent misdemeanor convictions. Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered Lewis held without bail while the court considers a request from the State Attorney’s Office to keep her detained through trial. If that request is denied, the judge will determine bail at the hearing.

Arrest reports are accounts provided by law enforcement agencies. The charges described are based on arrest documents and/or court records and represent allegations only. Every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
