A 75-year-old South Carolina woman is accused of opening fire on her husband more than once, even as she reportedly depends on an oxygen tank.
Josephine Scott has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime after an alleged shooting inside the home she shares with her husband. According to local NBC affiliate WMBF, Florence County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called Saturday to the couple’s residence in Timmonsville, South Carolina. Authorities did not release the husband’s name.
Deputies said Scott’s husband suffered wounds to his legs and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Officials indicated that the injuries were not life-threatening, and he is expected to survive.
Investigators later determined, according to police, that Scott allegedly shot her husband on purpose following an argument between the two. Authorities have not disclosed what the dispute involved or what they believe led Scott to allegedly pull the trigger. Scott, who appears to use an oxygen tank, is accused of shooting her husband twice.
Following her arrest, Scott was booked into the Florence County Detention Center on Sunday. At her initial court appearance Monday, a judge set bond at $50,000 on the attempted murder count and $5,000 on the weapons charge. Online court records show she posted the combined $55,000 bond and was released from custody.
Scott’s next court date is scheduled for Oct. 6.
