Chef Anne Burrell’s death last week in New York is reportedly being investigated as an overdose.
The 55-year-old Burrell was discovered deceased at her Brooklyn residence on Tuesday. As per The New York Times, an internal document disclosed that the Food Network Star was found unresponsive in the shower with “approximately 100 assorted pills” nearby.
The report further noted that back in January, it was disclosed that Burrell would not be returning as the host of “America’s Worst Cooks.” When an Instagram user inquired about her absence from the upcoming season, Burrell simply replied, “Honestly I don’t know.”
On the eve of her passing, Burrell is said to have attempted improv for the first time at a Brooklyn venue. The next morning, her husband reportedly found her unresponsive and contacted emergency services.
On Friday, a spokesperson for the city’s medical examiner’s office told The New York Times that Burrell’s autopsy was completed. However, officials said her cause and manner of death are still pending.
