The police reported that the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle traveling north, which then fled the area.

Emergency services transported the victim to Vista Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead, as confirmed by the authorities.

Shanna White, aged 50, was identified as the victim. Her daughter shared with ABC7 that Shanna was known for her generous spirit, making it difficult for her family to understand how anyone could abandon her after the accident.

“It feels like I’m trapped in a nightmare I can’t wake up from,” expressed Shaeve White.

It was the call she never saw coming.

“My mom is the sweetest person,” Shaeve White said. “She’ll give a person a shirt off her back. And anybody that know my mom always know Shanna had a heart and she was gonna be a good time.”

Winthrop Harbor police say a car was moving along Sheridan Road in Winthrop Harbor just after 11 p.m. Thursday when the driver hit 50-year-old Shanna White. The family says she often walked the road on her way to Kenosha. Police say after she was hit, that driver then left the scene.

“The audacity for them to not even stop and, you know, see if she was okay, at least not considering if she has family, if she’s leaving loved ones behind, like, y’all just really just kept going, like, it’s just crazy,” White said.

Shanna’s daughter, Shaeve, says when she went to visit the scene, it looked like her mother had been dragged along the road after getting hit. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

She leaves behind her five children and several grandchildren.

“Just come forward and explain yourself, explain what happened,” Shaeve White said.

The family is now demanding justice and pleading for help, with the hopes someone will come forward.

“If you’ve seen anything. I’m offering $5,000,” Shaeve White said. “If anybody seen anything, I got $5,000 I can offer y’all.”

“It sucks, because you only get one mom, you know,” Shaeve White said. “So you can have aunties a million cousins, but you can only get one mom.”

Police say they don’t know what type of car was involved, but are asking anyone with information to come forward.
