Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Early today, 18-year-old Brianna Castillo was taken into custody after allegedly aiming a gun at a woman in a downtown altercation and carrying a concealed weapon unlawfully. It is also claimed that she drove a car towards the victim, nearly hitting her.

Officers from the Gainesville Police Department were called to the scene around 3:37 a.m. on June 7, responding to reports from the 200 block of SE 2nd Avenue. There, Castillo had allegedly been in a dispute with the woman, during which she reportedly drew a handgun from her waistband and threatened the victim multiple times. The victim stated she feared for her life, convinced Castillo intended to shoot.

Authorities were able to locate a firearm that matched the victim’s description beneath Castillo’s seat in a vehicle.

Following her Miranda rights, Castillo reportedly acknowledged possessing the weapon but denied pointing it at the woman. Instead, she claimed she held it by her side after retrieving it from her waistband.

The responding officer remarked that at 18 years old, Castillo is not legally permitted to carry a concealed firearm.

A witness reportedly said that a short time after the incident with the gun, Castillo drove a vehicle aggressively toward the victim, coming extremely close to hitting her. The victim reportedly confirmed that Castillo drove aggressively toward her, and she thought Castillo was going to hit her with the vehicle.

Castillo has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawfully carrying a concealed firearm. Her criminal history and bail amount will be available on Monday.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
