A 17-year-old girl in Georgia is being charged as an adult with murder for allegedly shooting and killing her mother and stepfather in their home while her 6-year-old sister was present, with authorities stating the young girl discovered the bodies.

“To me, she is probably the saddest victim in all this,” commented Ashley Hulsey, a spokesperson for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, during a news conference on Tuesday afternoon. This was when they announced the arrest of Sarah Patrick, of Tyus, in connection with the February deaths of James and Kristin Brock.

Hulsey said the younger child was unaware of what happened after finding her parents with multiple gunshot wounds. “Smallest daughter found them and then she came and told Sarah and Sarah made the 911 call,” according to Hulsey. “Sarah was in the home.”

Police went to the Brock residence at 1531 Carrollton Tyus Road on Feb. 20 after the call came in from Patrick and found James Brock, 45, and Kristin Brock, 41, both dead inside. They lived there with Patrick and the “little girl” at the time, per Hulsey.

“Mountains of evidence have gotten us … here today,” Hulsey said, noting how James Brock’s death was “a special case” due to things he managed to live through, health-wise, before being allegedly killed by his stepdaughter.

“According to his family, he had a lot of heart trouble; he had numerous heart surgeries,” Hulsey said. “I believe he may have been waiting on a heart transplant at some point. To have his life cut short, when he was given so many opportunities to live, to me that’s a big takeaway from this story. And that a mother and stepfather will never be able to raise their children and the little girl that was in the home.”
