Texas authorities announced Thursday they had arrested a second person in connection with the death of a 8-year-old child earlier this year.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced that 17-year-old Kara Walker faces charges of causing serious bodily injury to a child. Her boyfriend, Nolan Stallings, 18, was previously apprehended on the same charge back in March.
The 8-year-old victim was Walker’s brother.
According to court records from Stallings’ case, the child was transported to a Baytown hospital on February 10 in critical condition with numerous injuries, as reported by KHOU. Unfortunately, the child passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Investigators reported that Stallings claimed the child frequently “fell down,” yet the detectives concluded the child had been “abused and tortured over several days.”
At that time, Gonzalez noted the boy’s injuries were indicative of abuse, with charging documents highlighted by the Houston Chronicle revealing the child had been struck with a blunt object.
Stallings was arrested on March 3.
Jail records show Walker is detained with a bond set at $100,000 and a court appearance on September 2. Although Stallings is not currently listed in jail records, KRIV reported that he was held on a $1 million bond.
Neither the victim’s sister nor the boyfriend have been charged directly with the boy’s death.
