In a heart-wrenching conclusion to a search that began over the weekend, the body of a 13-year-old Kansas boy has been discovered. Airen Andula, who disappeared on Sunday, was tragically found dead on Monday in a creek bed across the state line in Missouri.
Authorities in Linn County, Kansas, reported that Airen was last spotted near the town of Pleasanton. The disappearance prompted an extensive search operation, which included combing through wooded areas, trailers, homes, and outbuildings within a nearby lake community. The search, which began on Sunday evening, was temporarily halted early Monday due to treacherous conditions but resumed later in the day.
The search team’s efforts led to the grim discovery of Airen’s body in a ravine located in Missouri. The case took a disturbing turn when, on Monday, 47-year-old Damon Leonard reportedly contacted Bates County police with critical information. Leonard allegedly informed them of Airen’s fate and confessed to transporting the young boy’s body from Kansas to Missouri, where he left it in a creek bed, as detailed by Deputy Sheriff Amy Fishbaugh.
While the nature of Leonard’s relationship with Airen remains undisclosed, reports indicate that Leonard resides in Pleasanton, the same area where Airen was last seen riding his bicycle before his sudden disappearance.
As the investigation continues, the exact cause of Airen Andula’s untimely death has not been made public, leaving a community in mourning and seeking answers.
Andula’s cause of death was not disclosed.
Leonard has pleaded not guilty to felony abandonment of a corpse. He remains jailed on $100,000 cash-only bond as he awaits a January 15 court date.
