Sierra Jenkins worked for The Virginian Pilot and The Daily Press as a reporter. When she was caught in the crossfire in downtown Norfolk, Virginia, the news reporter was shot and killed.

Sierra was in the 300 block of Granby Street in downtown Norfolk when the incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m.

She was one of two people who were brought to the hospital. Two additional persons were shot, according to authorities, but they are expected to be okay.

Jenkins’ father, Maurice Jenkins, told the Pilot that his daughter “wasn’t much of a going-out kind of girl,” but that she had made an exception because a close friend was visiting.

Sierra was “a bright and intelligent woman with so much promise,” according to Kris Worrell, editor-in-chief of the Virginian Pilot.

“Her dedication to journalism was evident, and her reporting has made our town a better place. Her work as an education reporter was marked by both intensity and empathy.”

Sierra Jenkin’s marital status has not been revealed in any detail. It’s unclear whether she’s married or not.

She appears to be a very private person who does not want her personal information to be made public.

Jenkins graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in December 2019 and interned at Atlanta Magazine and CNN before joining The Pilot in December 2020.

Jenkins also worked for CNN as an editorial research intern for three months during the summer of 2020 and as a news assistant for CNN Health from September to December 2020.

Shortly after, she started working as a breaking news reporter for the Virginian Pilot. Jenkins had recently been reporting on regional education policy and concerns.

Sierra Jenkins Obituary

On March 19, 2022, Sierra Jenkins was shot and killed outside Chicho’s Pizza Backstage on Granby Street in Norfolk.

When gunshots erupted outside a popular Granby Street nightclub, Jenkins was one of two persons slain.
