A Florida woman expecting a DoorDash delivery instead opened her apartment door to find two young children allegedly abandoned outside, authorities said.

Ezra Anthony Tyson, 24, is facing two counts of child neglect.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the woman said someone knocked on her Jacksonville apartment door at about 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 9. She had been waiting for food she ordered through DoorDash.

When she opened the door, however, she found two children standing alone. She searched the surrounding area for an adult but could not find anyone, investigators said. A DoorDash driver then arrived and reportedly told her he had seen a man running away.

The woman knew the children’s mother but said she had not agreed to have the children brought to her apartment. She also did not know how Tyson had obtained her address.

Investigators later reviewed doorbell-camera footage that allegedly showed Tyson knocking on the door before leaving the children behind.

Deputies located Tyson at a business in the 5600 block of Norwood Avenue. He reportedly told them that people at the apartment knew he was leaving the children there, according to the affidavit.

The children’s mother also accused Tyson of assaulting her on Oct. 1. She told investigators that she had taken an Uber with their two children to drop them off at Tyson’s home. Because of “past altercations,” she said, she remained inside the vehicle.

Tyson allegedly opened the car door, grabbed her hair and pulled out one of her braids.

A witness reportedly told Tyson to stop and attempted to pull him away from the woman.

When questioned about the accusation, Tyson allegedly told deputies, “that’s bulls—,” and denied touching the children’s mother. He was arrested on a domestic battery allegation in addition to the two child neglect charges.

Tyson was arrested Oct. 18 and booked into the Duval County Jail, where he has since posted bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 12.
