Maybe she was just really thirsty.
Police in California say that they stopped a woman suspected of stealing Stanley water bottles worth around $2,500. According to the Roseville Police Department, officers responded Wednesday to reports of the brazen theft, which occurred at a store on Stanford Ranch Road, some 25 miles northeast of Sacramento.
“Staff saw a woman take a shopping cart full of Stanley water bottles without paying for them,” police said in a statement posted to Facebook. “The suspect refused to stop for staff and stuffed her car with the stolen merchandise.”
An officer conducted a traffic stop as the suspect’s bottle-laden car entered the highway, the statement says.
“A subsequent search of her vehicle resulted in the recovery of 65 Stanley products valued at nearly $2500,” the statement says.
Officials commented on the cups’ massive popularity — apparently sparked by influencers promoting the health benefits of hydration— but said the crime of stealing them doesn’t pay.
“While Stanley Quenchers are all the rage, we strongly advise against turning to crime to fulfill your hydration habits,” the statement says. “The Roseville Police Department remains committed to stopping retail theft.”
Police did not immediately release the name of the suspected thief.
