Inside Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom's difficult talks - and why they decided to finally show daughter Daisy at Blue Origin space flight

Katy Perry surprised her fans not just by venturing into space, but also by publicly revealing her daughter Daisy for the first time during her much-discussed Blue Origin flight.

Until now, the four-year-old had been kept away from the public eye by her pop star mom and actor father, Orlando Bloom. The couple reportedly faced challenging discussions leading up to this momentous trip.

On Monday, the former American Idol judge, at age 40, joined a star-studded crew that included Lauren Sanchez and Gayle King for a brief but thrilling 11-minute journey into space.

Daisy, dressed adorably in an astronaut outfit, made her public debut as she joined millions worldwide in watching her mother journey to the edge of space on this historic all-female rocket mission.

An insider revealed to DailyMail.com that Katy and Orlando made the tough choice to introduce Daisy to the world. Despite their previous decision to keep her out of the public eye, they wanted to share how much she means to them with their fans.

The California Gurls singer expressed her love for Daisy during the flight, holding up a daisy flower inside the spaceship and once more after safely returning to Earth.

Katy Perry shocked her fans not only when she made the choice to visit space, but when she showed her daughter Daisy for the first time amid her Blue Origin flight

In Blue Origin’s footage of the historic event, Daisy was filmed watching the crew land while proudly exclaiming: ‘My mama!’

‘Katy had planned a beautiful tribute to her daughter which was bringing the daisy into space with her,’ an insider revealed. ‘This was to honor her and show her how much she means to her.’

The Hot N Cold singer is devoted to her only child, and puts motherhood first amid her busy career.

‘Daisy is her life, and she is so protective of her but it was time to introduce her to the world,’ the inside source continued. ‘This was the perfect way to let the world see her.’

However, they explained this appearance ‘won’t be a one-off situation,’ and fans can now expect to see Daisy in public.

It was a difficult decision to introduce Daisy to the world, and Perry and Bloom, 48, had long conversations about it, going back and forth on whether they wanted to let their previously sheltered daughter witness the trip.

While it was a ‘monumental’ moment for the Grammy-nominated artist, ‘they had to acknowledge that something could go wrong.’

‘If it did, Daisy would have been traumatized,’ the insider said. ‘Ultimately, Jeff was able to convince them that the risk was incredibly low.’

A separate source claimed the famous parents allowed Daisy to witness the moment and be seen because ‘this wasn’t just fun for Katy, she wants Daisy to be proud of her and show her daughter that she can do anything.’

However, Bloom made the decision to step back from the spotlight. The Pirates of the Caribbean star did not want to appear on-camera, and even told producers and the film crew he wanted to keep a low-profile.

‘He did not want to take away from Katy’s moment and he also did not want people to see the fear in his eyes,’ the insider added.

The flight was a triumph, but Perry still received plenty of backlash about the historic journey.

Social media users slammed the space launch, calling the ‘ridiculous publicity stunt’ a ‘joyride for the super-rich.’

Fast food chain Wendy’s got in on the action, as the X account posted photos of Perry kissing the ground after landing with the caption, ‘I kissed the ground and I liked it,’ in reference to her song I Kissed a Girl.

Perry’s pop rival Kesha, 38, piled in on the drama, posting a snap of herself enjoying a Wendy’s shake and smiling.

Even Perry’s speech was mercilessly mocked, with viewers calling her emotional message ‘tone deaf’ and ’embarrassing.’
