King Kyle's forgotten castle: Under-fire radio host's ghost mansion

In recent weeks, Kyle Sandilands has been keeping a low profile in his Vaucluse home, staying close to his wife, Tegan Kynaston, and their son, Otto. This retreat comes amid the intense media scrutiny following his controversial dismissal from KIIS FM.

As the press continues to circle, eager for any developments in Sandilands’ ongoing legal battle with the Australian Radio Network, another property under his name remains conspicuously deserted.

Just a short four-minute drive from his current residence, nestled on a serene, tree-lined street, stands a mansion that has sat unused for the past two years. Sandilands, now 54, acquired this property for a staggering $14 million in late 2023.

The lavish purchase came on the heels of Sandilands signing a monumental 10-year, $100 million radio contract with ARN, a deal that was recently terminated amid allegations of breach—a move he is determined to challenge in court.

When Sandilands first acquired the grand four-bedroom, four-bathroom estate, it was the talk of the real estate world. Listings showcased the home in immaculate condition, highlighting its luxurious amenities.

A standout feature was its crystal-clear swimming pool, complete with a cascading spa, offering a mesmerizing view of the harbor—a testament to the opulence Sandilands was known for.

The entry level features a spacious entertainment deck flowing into an open-plan dining and living area.

The master bedroom, with an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe, sits on the same floor as two other bedrooms, while a fourth is downstairs.

But although the layout remains unchanged since Kyle bought the property, its condition has noticeably declined.

But our photos of the home, taken on Tuesday, show the rear wooden deck rotting and peeling away.

The pool, once a refreshing clear blue, now resembles a swamp with brown water and debris from nearby trees floating in it.

A level up, the hot tub fares no better, with its white tiles now stained brown with dirt and grime.

Through the dirty windows, carpet can be seen moulding and peeling off the floorboards, while the driveway looks like it hasn’t been cleaned or swept for months.

However, while the home may appear forgotten, Sandilands’ business manager Bruno Bouchet assures the Daily Mail his client has plans for the Vaucluse mansion.

‘It’s being renovated,’ he said on Thursday when we asked what was happening at the property.

Bouchet and Sandilands were pictured just last week inspecting the home while workers attended.

‘I don’t think he’s made up his mind yet,’ Bouchet added when asked if Sandilands would eventually be moving in with his wife and son.

However, when pressed for details of the projected timeline of the renovations or whether the home had been tenanted for the last two years, Bouchet could offer no further comment on Sandilands’ behalf.

‘I don’t think he would necessarily share that… I’m not sure how much he wants me to get into it,’ he said.

According to sources close to Sandilands and his wife, the couple originally had big plans to transform the Vaucluse mansion into their new permanent base.

They were reportedly hoping to move into the property and lodge a Development Application with Woollahra Municipal Council to add a third storey.

Sandilands and Kynaston were said to have been attracted to the privacy of the leafy surroundings, as well as the nearby schools.

However, the family is still living just four minutes away at their home near Nielsen Park, and at the time of writing there have been no DAs submitted for the Vaucluse home since 2002.

It comes after Sandilands released a statement at 7am on Wednesday morning announcing that KIIS FM’s parent company ARN had terminated his $100 million contract.

An hour later, reports emerged that ARN chief executive Michael Stephenson had emailed staff announcing that The Kyle and Jackie O Show had been axed.

The presenter Mike E will continue to helm a music show during the breakfast slot.

Prior to announcing the show had been axed, staff were sent another email advising them not to speak to the media and directing them to a network publicist.

The demise of The Kyle and Jackie O Show sent shockwaves through KIIS staff, in part because some are employed through Sandilands’ company, King Kyle, not ARN.

‘Many staff found out through social media instead of an official statement. It wasn’t until after the news broke that staff were advised officially,’ an insider told News Corp.

‘I am just so angry about how it has all been handled.

‘It’s not how the situation should be handled, especially when the team that worked on that show are still showing up every day to work.’

ARN declined to comment.

The company announced last month that Jackie ‘O’ Henderson’s contract had been terminated after she, or a proxy, informed executives she ‘cannot continue to work with’ Sandilands following his February 20 on‑air tirade.

At the time, ARN provided written notice to Sandilands that it considered his behaviour during the broadcast to be ‘an act of serious misconduct which is in breach of ARN’s service agreement with Quasar Media’.

Sandilands was given a 14-day suspension during which he was required to ‘remedy the breach.’

That deadline passed on Tuesday night and ARN revealed Sandilands’ fate the next morning. He intends to fight his dismissal.
