Pete Davidson and Machine Gun Kelly, who have maintained a strong, understated friendship for more than eight years, recently reunited in a public setting. The rapper was the first guest on Davidson’s new Netflix video podcast, marking the beginning of an exciting venture.

The premiere episode of “The Pete Davidson Show,” as covered by People, delves into their personal journeys, including candid discussions about their shared experiences with bipolar disorder and time spent in rehab. The pair left nothing off the table, providing an insightful look into their lives.

The podcast, taped in Davidson’s garage, featured a heartfelt reunion between the 32-year-old comedian and the 35-year-old musician, whose real name is Colson Baker.

Reflecting on their past, Davidson revealed how addiction once dominated their lives. He expressed astonishment at their survival, confessing they once believed they wouldn’t live long lives.

“I think we both thought we were going to die pretty young,” Davidson admitted, expressing a sense of wonder that they’ve managed to persevere. “I’m equally impressed by both of us [that we’ve] been able to keep it going.”

In addition, Davidson, who recently hinted at possible marriage plans with girlfriend Elsie Hewitt following the birth of their first child, acknowledged their struggles with sobriety. Despite these challenges, he remained optimistic, noting that they’ve managed to handle their issues, saying, “it’s fine.”

Both have previously discussed living with mental health challenges, and the topic came up on Davidson’s podcast with the Bad Things crooner musing their issues with bipolar disorder were ‘synced up.’

‘You know what else?’ MGK began. ‘I realized through our friendship … our bipolar has synced up because every time I’m having a manic episode, you’re good, and every time you’re having one, I’m good.’

Davidson then made a dark joke about their duo’s ‘suicide pact.’

‘Yeah, it’s really good for our suicide pact,’ The King of Staten Island star quipped, per People.

‘It is, it always goes back and forth,’ MGK pressed on.

‘Thank God,’ Davidson said matter-of-factly, ‘because we would be dead for sure.’

MGK went on: ‘Because every time I call, you’re super mellow. And every time you call, I’m super mellow. So, it just like goes back and forth.’

They waxed on about all the things they have in common including, as MGK stated, their mutual ‘coming-of-age stories and redemption stories and, like, almost like the phoenix rose from ashes. We come from sh—y circumstances. We come from nothing.’

Davidson has entered rehab multiple times since his first stint in July 2023, and has been forthcoming about his years of struggling with mental health and substance abuse.

MGK revealed in August 2024 that he had been sober for ‘almost a year’ and credited his then-fiancée Megan Fox for being ‘extremely helpful’ with the psychological withdrawals that followed from getting off drugs on Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde podcast.

‘I just thought it was funny that we’re always calling each other from rehab. We never go at the same time,’ the songwriter continued.

‘We never go at the same time,’ Davidson agreed. ‘But we usually both need it. The other one needs it while the other one is in it, and we’ll take, like so, so many notes.’

The comic conceded he it took ‘like, nine, ten times to go to rehab and get all the skills,’ telling MGK: ‘You’ll go and just get all the skills … and like I’m not saying it’s easy for you, like it’s tough, hard work, but like, you just don’t waste any time.’

He added that they’re both good at ‘not being so impulsive’ these days.

Fatherhood was a game-changer for both. Davidson welcomed his first child, daughter Scottie, in December with girlfriend Elsie Hewitt. MGK shares daughter Casie, 15, with ex Emma Cannon, and daughter Saga, 10 months, with Fox, with whom he maintains an amicable co-parenting relationship following their split in late 2024.

The conversation took on a gushing note, with Davidson telling MGK they’re better at pausing and thinking about their actions as opposed to reacting.

He said: ‘We’re getting better at taking a second and then just calling you. You’re the one friend I have that gets it, what I’m going through.’

Elsewhere during the interview, Davidson admitted he hasn’t been invited back to the Golden Globes since he and MGK attended together in 2019.

‘It was two manic, un-media-trained boys who got thrown in suits and were, like, “Let’s go to this prestigious awards show,”‘ MGK recalled, and Davidson chimed in, ‘And we smoked a joint in the elevator and took a picture of it, and it went everywhere.’

MGK then joked, ‘We gotta do a damn apology press run.’
