The Gentlemen's Joely Richardson has fans asking if she's 'drunk'

Joely Richardson’s appearance on Thursday’s This Morning quickly got viewers talking, with some questioning whether The Gentlemen star was “still drunk” following the cast’s lively premiere afterparty the previous evening.

The 61-year-old actress joined co-star Vinnie Jones, also 61, on the ITV daytime programme to promote the second season of Netflix’s hit crime drama The Gentlemen, in which she returns as Lady Sabrina Halstead.

However, the interview with hosts Andi Peters and Christine Lampard drew a strong reaction online, as some viewers described the segment as a “car crash” after Richardson appeared particularly animated, laughing and joking while responding to questions.

At one point, when Andi asked what it had been like working with Vinnie, Richardson clutched his arm and replied: “The best thing about Vinnie is Emma, his partner, who is right there. Who I got to know very well over season two.”

As she spoke, the actress kept her hand on Jones’s shoulder and gestured across the studio toward his girlfriend, Emma Ford, before affectionately blowing her a kiss.

Viewers soon took to X to share their thoughts on the This Morning interview, with one asking: “Is Joely Richardson coming across a bit drunk on This Morning?”

Another echoed the speculation, writing: “Is she still drunk from the premiere last night?”

A third joked: “Fair play to Joely. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.”

A representative for Joely has been contacted by Our News Outlet for comment.

Joely attended the premiere on Wednesday night at the Guildhall in London alongside the other cast members Maya Jama, Theo James and Kaya Scodelario.

The group then headed to the after party beneath the venue where they let their hair down.

The evening began in Guildhall Yard, which had been transformed into a grand country estate in homage to Guy Ritchie’s drama.

Guests walked a green carpet past manicured topiary and ornate iron gates, while handlers in flat caps, waistcoats and wellington boots stood with hunting dogs beside a gleaming vintage convertible.

Inside the Great Hall, Theo, Kaya and director Guy Ritchie took part in a Q&A before the audience watched the opening episode of the second series beneath the venue’s soaring roof and Gothic windows.

But once the credits rolled, guests were ushered downstairs into the East and West Crypts – the largest surviving medieval crypts in London – where the restrained aristocratic theme gave way to something altogether more raucous.

The network of underground chambers had been drenched in blood-red light, illuminating their spectacular vaulted ceilings, carved stone arches and pillars.

A full-sized boxing ring occupied the centre of the crowded room, complete with fighters, while a huge neon sign bearing the name of the show’s fictional Glass Knuckles boxing club glowed nearby.

Other drinks on the menu included The Old Fashioned Gentleman – a combination of bourbon, Pedro Ximénez sherry, black oak and chocolate bitters and demerara syrup, served with an edible chocolate ‘cigar’.

Guests could also order an Apex Predator, made from vodka, apricot liqueur, thyme syrup and lemon bitters, while alcohol-free alternatives were named the 0 per cent Apex Predator and the Tamed Tiger.

Gratiot-Pillière Brut champagne was poured alongside Gavi di Gavi white wine and Château Sainte-Marie bordeaux, while Stella Artois flowed from branded taps.

The series has so far been warmly received by critics, including Our News Outlet’s Christopher Stevens who described it as a ‘total blast’.
