Following the rapid rise of Netflix’s hit series “Stranger Things,” Caleb McLaughlin has been a prominent contender in this speculative casting frenzy.

For quite some time, McLaughlin has been a fan favorite for the role of Miles Morales, with countless discussions and debates across various online forums extolling his potential to bring the beloved character to life on screen. Back in 2019, fan artwork portraying McLaughlin as Miles surfaced on Reddit, sparking a wave of enthusiasm and support. One user commented, “I really want him to play Miles Morales; he’s awesome in ‘Stranger Things.’”
However, there are concerns about timing, as McLaughlin is growing older and may soon age out of convincingly portraying the teenage Miles. Yet, Hollywood has a long history of casting older actors in teenage roles—take “The O.C.,” for instance, where several leads were well into their 20s while portraying high school characters. The pressing question remains: Is the Marvel Cinematic Universe ready to introduce Miles Morales?
With “Stranger Things” concluded, McLaughlin might find himself with a more flexible schedule, potentially allowing him to explore new roles such as that of Miles Morales. Ultimately, the decision rests with McLaughlin and whether this opportunity aligns with his career aspirations.
Encouragingly, McLaughlin has expressed his willingness to embrace the role on multiple occasions. During the premiere of his movie “Goat” in February 2026, he conveyed to Variety his admiration for the character and his eagerness to step into Miles’s shoes. “I would love to play Miles,” McLaughlin stated, emphasizing, “Miles represents something bigger than myself; it’s a symbol that resonates deeply with many. Being from New York and witnessing the ‘Spider-Verse’ story, I feel a strong connection, and I believe many people understand its significance.”

Even though the “Stranger Things” series finale provided plot holes that are hard to ignore, the show is over. It’s done and dusted. Without the series commitment, Caleb McLaughlin could have some extra time on his hands to play, say, Miles Morales. Ultimately, though, it’s up to the actor if that’s even one of his goals.
The good news is that McLaughlin has said he’d be down to play Miles a few times already. In February 2026, during the premiere of his film “Goat,” the actor told Variety all about his adoration of the character and why he’d welcome the opportunity to play him. “I would love to play Miles,” McLaughlin said, adding, “I think Miles represents something bigger than myself; it represents something bigger than most people. Also, being from New York and then just seeing the ‘Spider-Verse’ story, I just feel it’s really, really connected and I feel like a lot of people understand what that means.”
McLaughlin also shared videos of him doing acrobatic work on his Instagram account. Watching him in motion, there’s only one thought that comes to mind: Yeah, that’s Spidey right there.
