Health authorities in New South Wales have issued a warning following the discovery of a measles case involving a Queensland resident who visited Sydney while contagious. Among the locations visited was the Accor Stadium, where the individual attended an Oasis concert, raising concerns about potential exposure to the virus.

Officials from NSW Health have advised concertgoers who were present at the Accor Stadium on the specified Saturday to remain vigilant for any signs of measles until Friday, November 28. This precautionary measure is necessary because symptoms of measles can take up to 18 days to manifest after initial exposure.

The spokesperson emphasized the importance of monitoring for symptoms, stating, “For those who visited these sites, it’s crucial to stay alert until November 28. Should symptoms develop, it’s advised to contact your GP or an emergency department beforehand to prevent spreading the virus in waiting areas.”

The health department also used this opportunity to stress the significance of vaccinations. “We urge the community to verify that their vaccinations are current. Measles is a highly contagious disease, and ensuring immunization is a key preventive step,” the spokesperson added.

This incident serves as a timely reminder for everyone to confirm their immunity against measles, reinforcing the role of vaccinations in safeguarding public health.

“This should be a reminder for everyone to check that they are protected against measles, which is highly infectious.

“Anyone born after 1965 needs to ensure they have had two doses of measles vaccine. This is especially important before overseas travel, as measles outbreaks are occurring in several regions of the world at the moment.”
