Jenna Ortega’s younger sister, Aliyah Ortega, has publicly weighed in after growing online concern about the actress’s apparent weight loss.
The Wednesday star and producer, who turns 24 next month, sparked fresh discussion among fans after appearing noticeably slimmer in an Esquire video released Tuesday, in which she spoke candidly about experiencing disordered eating as a child actress.
Aliyah, a 22-year-old influencer, responded to an Instagram post shared by Ortega super-fan Amrita Singh, who urged online critics to “leave her alone” and stop making “assumptions about her health.”
“She doesn’t owe anyone an explanation her life is her life, and her body belongs to her,” wrote Singh, a 36-year-old Guyanese DJ.
“She has every right to make whatever decisions she feels are best for herself without being judged, discriminated against, or subjected to unnecessary speculation. We don’t know what she may be going through, and we shouldn’t assume anything based on appearances or a few comments from an interview.”
Aliyah showed her support in the comments, simply writing: “!!!”

Later that day, the youngest of the Emmy Award nominee’s four siblings shared a TikTok video of herself lip-syncing to an Ariana Grande song. Grande, too, has faced public scrutiny over her noticeably slimmer appearance and has not responded to the latest criticism.
‘I love that I can [come] home to the Coachella Valley,’ Ortega told People of her family back in 2017.
‘And see my family and friends who have been with me from day one. It’s nice to have them by my side, always.’
The Cali-born, Mexican-Puerto Rican beauty has repeatedly admitted to suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder, which medical researchers have linked to eating disorders.
‘I have pretty intense OCD, so I’ve had the exact same routine for seven years,’ Ortega told Vogue last year.
‘I count to a certain number in the shower. I put my clothes on in a certain order. If I’m having a bad day and I don’t know why, it’s because I put the wrong sock on the wrong foot. I’m very aware of stuff like that. And while it may come across as silly, and I can acknowledge that, it also brings me some sort of comfort.’
The Daily Mail has reached out to Ortega’s representative for comment but did not immediately hear back.
Ortega is gearing up to portray a muscular ‘prodigious’ gymnast trying out for the Olympics and clashing with her coach (Rose Byrne) in Mary Bronstein’s film Nasty hitting theaters next year.
