Grimes has stepped forward to support Selena Gomez in light of the recent wave of criticism targeting her appearance. The pop sensation Gomez, now 33, made a notable return with her first solo single in nearly two years, accompanied by a fresh music video.

While the new track, titled “In The Dark,” was warmly received by many of Gomez’s fans, it unfortunately also attracted negative attention. Some harsh critics on social media chose to attack Gomez’s looks as showcased in the music video.

This release comes amidst swirling rumors about potential plastic surgery for the “Bad Liar” singer, adding another layer to the public’s scrutiny of her appearance.

Upon witnessing the unkind comments directed at Gomez, Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, took to social media with a passionate response. The 37-year-old artist condemned the attacks, likening them to “high school level bullying,” and insisted that the accounts responsible for such trolling should be “suspended.”

Taking to X, which is owned by her ex-partner Elon Musk, she said: ‘I’ve been on the internet for like 48 hours and despite minor benefits I might have to leave.

‘Watched this Selena Gomez video, besides a few weird derp shots that ppl were able to clip and super misrepresent how she looks, she looks extremely beautiful, is prob one of the most beautiful girls.

‘Imagine what it would feel like if people talked about you this way. Try to imagine the mental fortitude she presumably has.’

‘How do we not utterly morally castigate someone who has a post like this [that] blows up and chooses to keep the clout at the expense of everybody’s mental health?’ she went on, in response to a particularly mean post about Gomez’s appearance.

‘How do you think little girls feel reading stuff like this about another woman? This might be vaguely the second gen of women being allowed to be over 30 in entertainment if you can even count the first gen as anything besides a few outliers.’

Grimes continued: ‘It should not be OK to do high school level bullying. Accounts should be suspended for body shaming en masse. This is disturbing – in part because it’s not even true if you actually watch this video.’

While Grimes noted that she isn’t usually ‘in the biz of knowing what other celebrities do,’ she couldn’t help but speak out about how ‘unhealthy’ social media has become.

‘I have no context here, but this place is unhealthy as f**k and this being socially acceptable behavior is culture death – not just for the Selena or the writer but everyone who sees this and engages with this level of dehumanization,’ she added.

Grimes’s public takedown comes after one cruel social media user likened Selena’s looks to ‘an X Files monster.’

They said: ‘How come in South Korea every woman with an extra $5k can get effortless hotification surgery on demand but in the US you have millionaire celebrities going under the knife with a 50/50 chance they’ll come out looking like an X Files monster of the week.’

Last month, Selena wed her husband Benny Blanco in front of friends and family members on a 70-acre private estate in picturesque Santa Barbara. 

Big names and bigwigs at the wedding of the year included her Only Murders in the Building co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin as well as her longtime best friend Taylor Swift.

Other A-list guests include Paul Rudd, Ashley Park and Cara Delevigne as well as her fellow Emilia Perez stars Edgar Ramirez and Zoe Saldana.

Selena also invited her onscreen family from Wizards of Waverly – Jennifer Stone, David DeLuise and Maria Canals-Barrera.

Amid recent plastic surgery rumors, Dr. Rian Maercks told the Daily Mail he thinks the Only Murders In The Building star appears to have undergone a ‘well-executed rhinoplasty.’

‘Her earlier nasal architecture featured more widely splayed nasal bones and a softly broad mid-vault – features that gave her face a naturally open, balanced quality,’ he explained.

The expert, who has not treated Gomez himself, explained that in more recent images the nasal bones appear ‘refined and drawn closer together,’ which has narrowed the mid-vault (the middle third of the nose) and streamlined her overall profile.

‘Her light reflex points – the highlights that dance off the nasal tip – are now more centralized and cohesive, which reflects precise sculptural refinement,’ he shared.
