(NEXSTAR) – Amazon Freevee users who are hopelessly addicted to reruns of “Bosch: Legacy” will soon have to get their fix on Prime Video.

Amazon’s free streaming platform, Freevee, is set to discontinue its app in August, as per a notification sent to its users. However, the company assures that Amazon’s free content can still be accessed through a Prime account.

An Amazon spokesperson explained in an email to Nexstar that “there will be no changes to the content available for Prime members. Non-Prime members will continue to have access to a wide range of free streaming options, including selected Originals from Amazon MGM Studios, various licensed films and series, and an extensive collection of FAST Channels – all accessible on Prime Video.”

Earlier, Amazon revealed plans to gradually “phase out Freevee branding” by integrating its content into the Amazon Prime Video library. The company aimed to provide a “simpler viewing experience for customers,” according to a statement shared with Variety in November 2024.

Freevee originally launched in 2019 as “IMDb Freedive” but soon rebranded as “IMDb TV.” (IMDb — aka the Internet Movie Database — has been owned by Amazon since 1998.) The streaming service, which was supported by ads, was renamed “Amazon Freevee” in 2022.

Original programming available on Freevee included the aforementioned “Bosch” sequel series, the reality courtroom mockumentary “Jury Duty,” and the “Judge Judy” spinoff “Judy Justice,” among other original series and select Prime content.

All of the programming has also been made available to Amazon Prime Video users.

Users of the Freevee app, meanwhile, are being instructed to make the switch to Prime video to continue watching its ad-supported content.

“Download Prime Video to get started and sign in with your Amazon account,” reads a notice currently greeting Freevee app users.
