2025 State of Tourism highlights Augusta’s growth

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta’s tourism sector is basking in another year of impressive growth and economic vitality. On Wednesday, Destination Augusta hosted its annual State of Tourism event at the Marriott Convention Center, spotlighting the individuals, stories, and industries that contribute to the city’s prosperity.

Augusta is drawing visitors from across the nation, thanks to iconic events like the Masters Tournament, as well as its thriving arts scene and local sports offerings.

“Visitors are frequenting our restaurants and bars. They’re shopping in our local establishments,” said Jennifer Bowen of Destination Augusta.

“This influx of spending supports local employment and enhances our overall quality of life,” she added.

In 2024, visitor expenditures funneled nearly $890 million into the local economy, covering essentials like dining, lodging, entertainment, recreation, and transportation.

However, Augusta’s tourism appeal is not limited to its traditional events and attractions. The city is also emerging as a burgeoning center for film production.

“A lot of stuff that we can do in Augusta that we can’t do in the larger cities that would then allow us to be able to move around, be able to shoot on site while some different properties that we can shoot without it being too congested,” said Augusta film professional Terrence Williams.

Williams says he worked on several scenes from the second Suicide Squad movie filmed in Augusta. Other notable productions filmed here include The Hill, starring Dennis Quaid, and The Mule, directed by Clint Eastwood.

Whether it’s film, the Masters Tournament, or local events, Augusta continues to draw visitors, and it makes people proud to show off their home town .

Destination Augusta also presented tourism awards to several people and an organization recognized for their work to enhance visitor experiences in the area.
