JERUSALEM – A shooting in the northern West Bank left four Palestinians and one Israeli dead, health officials said Friday, with several others wounded in the attack.
Details surrounding the incident near the city of Nablus remained unclear. The shooting came amid a recent surge of violence across the Israeli-occupied territory.
The Palestinian Health Ministry in Ramallah said Israeli forces killed the four Palestinians. Israel’s Magen David Adom rescue service did not identify who killed the Israeli man. Palestinian health officials said four Palestinians were receiving treatment, including three listed in critical condition, while Israel’s rescue service reported that two injured Israelis were being airlifted from the West Bank.
In a statement, the Israeli military said troops responded after receiving a report of an attack on Israeli civilians who were hiking near the settlement of Havat Gilad, west of Nablus. The military said it had placed a “temporary cordon” around Nablus and the nearby Palestinian village of Tell.
