Pitching duo leading Glenwood softball to postseason run

CHATHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — IHSA softball playoffs are right around the corner, with teams vying for seeding and a home-field advantage.

Glenwood is slated to host a Class 3A softball sectional and the Titans are strong contenders to be playing in front of the home fans.

The Titans achieved a 27-1 record, securing their fourth consecutive Central State Eight title, with a pitching duo that has yet to concede double-digit runs in a game.

“Having two really strong arms has definitely helped because I know a lot of teams, particularly in the area, only have one good pitcher and that’s about it,” said catcher Taryn Griffith. “Having both really strong arms and a solid defense behind them definitely helps.”

Sophomore Alyvia Streb and junior Irie Lohrenz have provided a big advantage all season long in the circle.

“It’s pretty awesome because, like, if I’m having a rough day or Irie’s having a rough day, we just always have each other’s backs,” said Streb. “We hold each other accountable on the field, like at practices, making sure we’re getting all of our stuff done.”

The Titans open up play at the Taylorville regional on Tuesday, May 27 against Eisenhower.
