ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) — EO Companies announced Tuesday it acquired the former Food City location in Abingdon.
The location, found off Exit 17 of Interstate 81, is aimed at enhancing well-being, fostering connection, and creating opportunities in Southwest Virginia, as stated in an EO press release.
The property is located near EO’s Regional Workforce and Child Development hub that opened in 2024.
“We see significant potential in this area as a driving force for community impact,” said Travis Staton, President and CEO of EO Companies, in the release. “By putting resources into properties that are highly accessible and centrally placed, we’re paving the way for new prospects to boost regional belonging, connectivity, and well-being.”
EO highlighted that the overarching aim is to nurture local talent, draw new residents, and offer more incentives for people to remain in the area.
“In the forthcoming months, EO will undertake a regional evaluation of present community resources and pinpoint where these properties can fill existing gaps—especially in the realms of social interaction, placemaking, recreation, and civic participation,” EO mentioned in the release. “This initiative will be informed by community feedback and involve residents and collaborators actively in determining the site’s future. Concurrently, EO is beginning to gather public and private partners to garner collaborative support and secure the investment needed to bring the project to fruition.”
