Husband, wife accused of allegedly starving child to death at Fort Stewart indicted

FORT STEWART, Ga. — A couple has been charged with federal offenses for allegedly murdering their child while residing at Fort Stewart, officials revealed on Friday.

Brandon and Stacey Kelly are accused of failing to provide their daughter, Vyolet Kelley, with “adequate nourishment and medical care,” according to a representative from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia.

A federal court has revealed the indictment, charging 29-year-old Brandon and 26-year-old Stacey with felony murder and two counts of second-degree murder. If found guilty, they face potential sentences of life imprisonment.

The charges alleged that Vyolet starved to death while living at the Fort Stewart Military Reservation.

Brandon was an enlisted soldier, the U.S. Attorney’s Office spokesperson said.

“The allegations in this case are deeply tragic. Our office is committed to collaborating with law enforcement to ensure justice is served,” stated Acting United States Attorney Tara M. Lyons.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Army Criminal Investigative Division, and the case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Timothy P. Dean and E. Greg Gilluly, Jr.
