Illinois State Police Respond to Numerous Accidents Amid Friday's Severe Weather

Central Illinois experienced severe weather on Friday, which included thunderstorms, strong winds, and even a dust storm. Illinois State Police reported that during this weather event, they dealt with numerous crashes throughout the area.

The following crashes were reported to the Illinois State Police between 3-7 p.m. on May 16.

Illinois State Police Troop 5 responded to the following incidents:

  • Motorist Assists: 3
  • Non-Injury Crashes: 7
  • Injury Crashes: 6

Troop 5 covers DeWitt, Ford, Iroquois, Kankakee, Livingston and McLean counties.

Troop 6, which covers Christian, Logan, Mason, Menard, Morgan, and Sangamon counties, among others, assisted with two motorist incidents on Friday.

The counties of Coles, Champaign, Douglas, Macon, Vermilion, Moultrie, Piatt, Shelby, and Edgar are under the jurisdiction of Illinois State Police Troop 7. During the severe conditions on Friday, Troop 7 responded to various incidents.

  • Motorist Assists: 4
  • Non-Injury Crashes: 4
  • Injury Crashes: 3

Troop 9 serves Effingham, Cumberland, Fayette, Clark and more. On Friday, State Police responded to two motorist assists and two injury crashes.
