Search underway for 2 missing boaters in New Smyrna Beach


NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Authorities are actively searching for two boaters who have been unaccounted for since the early hours of Monday morning.

As per the New Smyrna Beach police, the individuals were last in contact at 6 a.m. after departing from Lake Helen. Their vehicle, along with the boat trailer, was subsequently located at the Swoop Boat Ramp.

Initial reports suggest that the missing boaters intended to fish about 30 miles out at sea, although their exact whereabouts are currently unknown. They are believed to be on a white, 25-foot Carolina Classic boat, according to the police.

The police have also made a photograph of the specific vessel public.

The identities of the boaters have not been disclosed. The New Smyrna Beach Police Department has stated that they will share further information as it becomes available.

Leading the search efforts is the New Smyrna Beach Police Department Marine Unit, working in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
