Ja’Marr Chase’s appeal against his one-game suspension for spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey has been rejected. This decision, made by a hearing officer, means he will miss the upcoming game against the New England Patriots.

The suspension, which is without pay, was confirmed on Tuesday by hearing officer Jordy Nelson, who is appointed by both the NFL and the NFLPA.

The incident occurred during the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s matchup, where the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver was involved in an altercation with Ramsey. During the clash, Ramsey grabbed Chase’s face mask and struck him, leading to Ramsey’s ejection from the game.

In the announcement, the NFL highlighted that Chase’s punishment was in line with rules regarding conduct that violates the “generally understood principles of sportsmanship.”

Despite Chase’s denial of the spitting accusation following the Bengals’ 34-12 defeat, a local Cincinnati TV station captured the incident on video.

As recorded in the NFL Players Association database, Chase will lose a minimum of $448,333.33 from his base salary due to the suspension.
