WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A man from Jonesborough was taken into custody on Saturday, facing charges of abusing an elderly adult after allegedly choking a woman and preventing her from exiting a house.
According to a news release from the Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) on Monday, Joseph Douglas, 42, is charged with abuse of an elderly adult, aggravated assault, kidnapping, and vandalism.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Archer Road during the afternoon on Saturday. Douglas reportedly emerged from the home and surrendered to the deputies.
The victim informed the WCSO that Douglas had choked her, pushed her into furniture, threatened her life, damaged her cell phone, and restricted her from leaving the residence.
The sheriff’s office stated that the victim had injuries consistent with her statement.
As of Monday, Douglas remained in the Washington County Detention Center without bond. He is set to appear in court Monday.
