McCormick County Schools announces clear bookbag policy, registration day event Thursday

McCormick County Schools Unveils New Transparent Backpack Rule; Join Us for Registration Day this Thursday

McCORMICK COUNTY, S.C. – The McCormick County School District is introducing a fresh policy in preparation for the 2025-2026 school year, with families gearing up for the commencement of classes on July 24.

This school year, all students will be required to use clear bookbags in order to “enhance visibility and streamline security procedures.”

Mesh or “solid-colored” backpacks will not be deemed acceptable. Only fully transparent bags will be allowed.

According to the school district, the policy applies to all students and grade levels.

To further equip students, the district will hold a Registration Day on Thursday, July 10, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the MMS/MHS Gymnasium.

Staff are expected to be on site to assist families as needed.

“Registration Day is an important opportunity for families to get everything in place before

school starts,” said Dr. Jaime Hembree, Superintendent. “We’re especially focused on safety,

readiness, and making sure every student feels prepared and welcome.”
