KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A trial date has now been set for accused Kansas City serial killer Fredrick Scott.

A Jackson County judge on Thursday set a trial date starting August 31, 2026. It is expected to last two to three weeks.

Last week, a judge deemed Scott as mentally fit to resume his trial. He’s charged with six murders, including three cases where victims’ remains were found near the Indian Creek trails in 2017.

One of the victims was Mike Darby, who owned the popular Coach’s Bar and Grill on 103rd Street in south Kansas City. He was 61 years old when his remains were found.

In July of 2024, he had a courtroom outburst, which led to the room being cleared and Scott being committed to a state mental health facility, delaying the case.

Last month, an evidentiary hearing was held at the Jackson County Courthouse regarding Scott’s competency to continue the trial. The judge ruled Scott as mentally fit on Thursday, July 3.

This is the longest-running criminal case in Jackson County, having been filed eight years ago in 2017.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for later this month on July 30, at 4 p.m.
