Arrest made in connection to violent robbery of Macklemore's Seattle home

Seattle police apprehended a suspect in relation to the home invasion robbery at Macklemore’s residence earlier this summer, during which assailants armed with bear spray stole the rapper’s Seattle Sounders championship ring, officials reported on Thursday.

A King County’s Valley Swat team executed a raid on the suspect’s residence in Renton on August 21, resulting in the arrest of the unidentified individual, as stated by the Seattle Police Department.

Police reported that two men gained entry through an unlocked door of Macklemore’s home in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle during the early hours of June 7, assaulting a 22-year-old nanny with bear spray.

The assailants plundered the residence, taking thousands of dollars worth of personal items, including a notably recognizable Seattle Sounders ring bearing its owner’s name, according to police.

Following the raid in Renton last week, investigators were led to “a jewelry store in South Seattle,” where a search warrant was executed on Wednesday. Detectives discovered multiple stolen items from the owner’s home and other local residences that had recently been burglarized, as detailed in the SPD statement.

The Seattle police statement did not specifically confirm whether the Sounders ring was recovered, and a department representative could not be reached for comment on Friday.

The nanny and Macklemore’s children were not injured in the June 7 attack.

The victim told police she had just put the children to bed when the robbers attacked. The nanny managed to flee and called 911 from a neighbor’s home.

It wasn’t clear in initial reports if Macklemore was home during the attack, but that seemed unlikely as the rapper performed in Ireland on June 4 and 5.

Macklemore, born Ben Haggerty, and wife Tricia Davis are minority owners of the Sounders and he’s a longtime fan of the MLS side.

The four-time Grammy winner flashed his championship ring from the 2019 MLS Cup-winning club in video for “CHANT.” He looked into the camera at about the 2:50 mark, telling fans “I was supposed to be a one-hit ringer, now I’ve got too many rings and not enough fingers.”

Macklemore is best known for his 2012 hit “Thrift Shop” which won Grammys for best rap song and best rap performance. His “Same Love” with Ryan Lewis came out that same year, was nominated for song of the year and became a prominent anthem in the push for marriage equality.
