MIMS, Fla. – Rainfall reminded some of a hurricane Tuesday in north Brevard County after several inches of rain fell during a flash flood warning.
Mims community correspondent James Sparvero spotted a flooded yard on Kelly Road near the post office.
Tom Dankowski showed James flooding by his yard in the Fawn Lake neighborhood. Fawn Lake is west of I-95 off State Road 46.
“When it rains Fawn Lake is underwater,” Dankowski said. “And God forbid, we get a hurricane.”
Hurricane Ian flooded Mims in 2022 and destroyed a lakefront restaurant.
Dankowski compared Tuesday’s weather with the storm three years ago.
“This is just a usual rainy day in Florida,” he mentioned. “My worry is that much of the power grid is buried underground, which means it’s currently flooded. Additionally, I’m concerned that many homes might crack, break, or sink because the ground—composed of dirt, construction materials, and sand—is very soft.”
Brevard County told Sparvero it received no reports of anyone being hurt or needing rescued from any flooding Tuesday.
