APOPKA, Fla. – In a tragic accident in Apopka, a pickup truck carrying only teenagers crashed, resulting in the deaths of three young individuals and leaving three others with serious injuries, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Authorities responded to the scene near the intersection of Welch Road and Wekiwa Drive around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The Florida Highway Patrol’s report indicates that a 17-year-old male was behind the wheel of a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado when he lost control during a curve. The truck veered off the road, collided with a tree, and flipped over.
Inside the vehicle were six male teenagers, all from Apopka. Tragically, three of them—a 17-year-old passenger, another 17-year-old passenger, and a 13-year-old passenger—died. Two were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third succumbed to injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
The three other teenagers, aged 14, 15, and 17, sustained serious injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals. Fortunately, their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The crash report highlighted that four of the passengers, including the deceased 17-year-old and 13-year-old, were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
