Wallace leads Illinois with 27 points in season-opening win


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois women’s basketball team kicked off the season with an impressive victory, defeating Southeast Missouri by more than 20 points.

Berry Wallace achieved a personal milestone, scoring a career-high 27 points and securing a double-double, propelling Illinois to a commanding 91-67 triumph to open the season.

“My teammates were a huge factor,” shared Wallace, now in her sophomore year. “Their ability to assist and deliver great passes gave me the opportunity to score easily, which really helped boost my performance.”

Adding to Wallace’s standout performance, Gretchen Dolan and Maddie Webber each contributed 16 points, with Dolan also notching five rebounds and seven assists. Cearah Parchment built on her impressive showing from the Maryville exhibition, adding eight points, while fellow freshman Destiny Jackson scored six points over 33 minutes.

Next on the schedule, Illinois will face off against Illinois State on Sunday, November 9, at 12 p.m.
