Chelsea fans were left furious after two penalty decisions didn’t go their way during their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool.

The Reds went five-points clear at the top of the table thanks to goals by Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz.

Chelsea though felt they should have had a penalty before Jota’s opening goal when Conor Gallagher was brought down by Virgil van Dijk.

However, neither were awarded as penalties even after VAR checks, much to the ire of Chelsea fans – who insist Jurgen Klopp’s retirement could boost Liverpool in terms of on-field decisions this season.

It wasn’t just Chelsea fans though, as former Southampton star Matt Le Tissier led the protests into VAR, saying they ’embarrassed themselves again at Anfield tonight.’

Chelsea fan page @CFCMod said: ‘Goodluck to everyone playing against Liverpool for the rest of the season, I’m convinced they announced Klopp’s departure to guarantee a 12th man in every game.’

Felix Johnston posted: ‘I don’t generally believe in corruption in football, but we’ve had 2 literal stone wall penalties denied today. It’s an actual joke

‘Anfield. Klopp’s farewell. Not surprised.’

Simon Phillips wrote: ‘Chelsea have had two STONE WALL (not even a debate) penalties in this game looked at by VAR and not given. Something is seriously wrong here.

@ConnCFC added: ‘Chelsea cheated out of two penalties. The referee is a joke.’

Kristian Sturt slammed Liverpool captain Van Dijk, as he wrote: ‘VVD has been absolutely awful. If the refereeing team was half competent he’d have conceded two pens and the game would look a lot different. The state of VAR in this country is beyond a joke.’

Another Chelsea fan commented: ‘Nah fair play Klopp announcing it early, smart move, players, fans and officials are well up for it.’

Charlie Patrick posted a mocked up VAR image saying ‘Decision: Whatever Liverpool want.’

It wasn’t just penalty decisions that Chelsea were frustrated with, as fans also complained about the decision to allow Bradley’s first goal for the club after Ben Chilwell collided with Jota in the build-up.
