Before the general elections in 2023, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, posted Muhammad Yakubu, a new police commissioner, to Kano State Command.
Xtra.net reports that Yakubu is now in charge of the Kano Police Command. His predecessor, Mamman Dauda, who was in charge of the state police command, was moved to Plateau State.
CP Ita Uko-Udom was sent to the Kano Central Senatorial District for the general elections. DCPs Adamu Ngoji and Abdulkadir El-Jamal were sent to the Kano South, and DCP Abaniwonda Olufemi was sent to the Kano North Senatorial District.
In a phone interview with journalists on Tuesday night, Abdullahi Haruna, the Kano State Command PPRO, confirmed the news.
“The information is correct; we now have a new CP in Kano. But Kano was not the only state where this happened.” Haruna said.
In a follow-up statement that our reporter got, the PPRO said, “The Kano State State Police Command wishes to inform the good people of Kano State that CP Muhammad Yakubu assumed duty as the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command today, while CP Mamman Dauda has been posted to Plateau State Police Command for the 2023 general elections.

“The Command appreciates the good people of Kano State for their prayers, support, encouragement and cooperation. We, therefore, solicit the cooperation of all as we are committed to ensuring a free, fair, credible, transparent and successful 2023 general elections. Thank you and God bless.”
Xtra.net reports that former Kano CP Mamman Dauda has been moved to Plateau. This comes just a few days after the New Nigeria People’s Party said the CP was working with the state government to hurt the party during election time.
The party asked the IG to move the police commissioner out of the state.
On the other hand, the ruling All Progressives Congress said that they had raised similar concerns and that the CP was not being tough on criminals who were NNPP supporters.
