An investigation is under way into a suspicious fire that engulfed a medical clinic in Melbourne’s north overnight.
Authorities responded to an emergency situation at a residential property functioning as a medical clinic near the intersection of Gaffney and Derby streets in Pascoe Vale around 9:30 pm last night.
They arrived to find the building entirely consumed by flames.
No one was inside at the time, but the fire threatened nearby properties whose residents were evacuated as a precaution.
As firefighters endeavored to control the fire, a smoke alert was released for the surrounding area. The medical clinic experienced a collapse of its roof structure during the incident.
The fire was brought under control about 50 minutes later.
No injuries were reported.
Fire Rescue Victoria and Victoria Police have deemed the fire suspicious, and a crime scene has been declared at the home.
An arsonist chemist will assess the scene today.
Police urge anyone with information or footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
