The mother of a 17-year-old student from Scots College has expressed her anguish over an incident where her son was reportedly coerced into attending a park event, only to endure a “coming of age” ritual involving being attacked as he passed through a human tunnel.

Authorities are currently investigating the alleged assault, which took place near the Woollahra Golf Course in Rose Bay, a suburb in eastern Sydney, around 5:40 p.m. on Saturday.

Trish, the boy’s mother, shared that her son felt pressured into going to what was portrayed as a party.

“Receiving a frantic call from your son while you’re at work, hearing him scream and recount what happened, is something you can hardly believe,” Trish recounted.

According to police, it has been reported that a group of boys allegedly attacked the 17-year-old.

“Officers from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command have launched an investigation following the alleged assault of a 17-year-old at a sports ground on Manion Ave, Rose Bay,” a police representative stated.

“The boy sustained no injuries.”

The Scots College, a Presbyterian day and boarding school for prep to year 12 boys, describes itself as an “Australian school that defends the honourable traditions, adventures and learning of boys”.

It is deemed one of the country’s oldest and most exclusive boys’ schools, with fees for year 12 students exceeding $46,000 a year.
