One of the big four banks is under fire for handing out a commemorative pin to a dedicated employee who worked there for almost half a century.
A man named Nick claimed his mother just completed 45 years of service with Commonwealth Bank.

In a TikTok video shared via his account @dreamfueltribe, he claimed that the bank acknowledged his mother’s long service with a bouquet and a modest pin.

“I felt quite let down on her behalf, considering her lengthy commitment was recognized with such a minor gesture,” he expressed to nine.com.au.

“While it’s wise not to have grand expectations from large corporations, it’s the small acts that truly make employees feel appreciated,” he added.

Within the TikTok clip, Nick remarked that the pin served as a reminder to Australian workers that they are “merely numbers within the system.”

The video has resonated widely, garnering over 10,000 views.

Viewers expressed their discontent and anger in the comments, with some describing the pin as an “insult” to Nick’s mother’s dedicated service.

Nine.com.au understands Commonwealth Bank provides employees who hit certain tenure milestones with a clothing pin denoting the length of their service.

The pin can be worn at work.

“While we are not able to comment on the individual circumstances of current or former employees, we do have a long-standing service recognition program designed to celebrate and reward the tenure of our people,” a CBA spokesperson told nine.com.au.

“In the case of significant milestones such as 45 years, our people receive a personal email of recognition, while celebrations can include a range of events such as morning or afternoon teas hosted by a senior leader, lunches, dinners and gifts such as flowers.

“Employees also benefit from our staff rewards scheme through the provision of points that have a dollar value at 10, 20, 30 and 40 years of service.

“For eligible employees who reach 40 years of service, they receive 4000 recognition points, which is equal to $4000 in value.”

Despite some unpopular moves, Commonwealth Bank remains one of the top five most trusted brands in Australia, according to a survey released last month.
