Former President Donald Trump has initiated legal action against the BBC, accusing the broadcaster of defamation and breaching a Florida statute that prohibits deceptive and unfair trade practices. He is demanding $5 billion in damages per each of the lawsuit’s two claims.
In a statement, a representative for Trump’s legal team criticized the BBC, claiming it has a “consistent history of misleading its viewers about President Trump, driven by its own left-leaning political motives.”

Earlier on Monday, a BBC spokesperson informed Reuters that the broadcaster had “not received any further communication from President Trump’s legal representatives at this time. Our stance remains unchanged.” The BBC did not offer an immediate comment after the lawsuit was filed.
