An investigation into an alleged targeted shooting is under way after a home in Sydney’s west was sprayed with bullets overnight.

Authorities responded to a residence in Guildford West shortly after midnight when reports emerged about multiple gunshots being fired.

Inside the home were three individuals: two women aged 45 and 23, along with a seven-year-old child. Thankfully, none of them sustained injuries during the incident.

A firearm was recovered from the charred vehicle and is currently undergoing forensic testing.

Detective Inspector Ricki Lindner said the occupants of the home were “quite rattled”.

“It’s not a nice thing to have occurred to them and it’s outrageous that this sort of thing is happening in the community,” Lindner said.

Lindner said police believe the incident was targeted.

It is understood the target of the shooting was not at home.

Detectives will investigate if the incident is linked to organised crime.

Lindner said police are taking this and other shootings like it, very seriously.

“It’s brazen, it’s blatant, it’s dangerous and the community and police won’t tolerate it,” she said.

“Police take this sort of behaviour, this brazen behaviour, very seriously.”
